Year 3 and 4 Curriculum Evening: Please click this link to book your place.

We are delighted to offer, on Wednesday 25th February, a curriculum evening to enable parents to understand further the curriculum that we teach in school, and how you can help support your child at home. Each session will last about 45 minutes.

Mathematics – led by Mrs Walley:

During the maths session you will be introduced to several maths games you can play at home with your child. These games are designed to improve your child’s mental maths and to learn whilst having fun! They include the key number skills which are the basis for their maths development throughout the school. You will be given some of the games and resources to take away with you.

Reading and Writing – led by Mrs Harling and Mrs Simmons:

The reading workshop is intended to give some insight into the type of reading activities that your children experience in school. We will look at some comprehension and how these skills are developed across the key stage and the expectations of children’s reading by Year 6. We will look at the range of skills that your child needs to develop in reading and the importance of reading in developing children’s writing. We will also explain the ways you can best support your child’s reading development at home: the most important message being – reading should be fun!

The writing element will be split into 3 main parts.  Firstly, we will be looking at writing expectations by the time your children reach Year 6.  We’ll have a look at some different levels of writing to demonstrate how children can develop their writing throughout their years at school.  We will also consider the grammatical aspect of writing and the grammatical vocabulary that the children need to know – it might surprise (or frighten) you!  The final aspect of the session will be to provide you with fun ways you can support your child at home in their writing development.

As you can see the teachers have put a lot of thought into what will help you as parents. Please note, however, that these workshops are for parents only, so please do not bring your child to school and arrange childcare - thank you.
